Abstrak

Pajengan (some contest of the beauty of the cows) is a typical tradition of the Madura peoples especially in Sana Daja village, after the bullrice and (sapi sono') are considered to be undergoing some changes, both from high prices and the cost of implementing and maintaining expensive cows. The community began to switch to the cattle pajengan contest. Every year members of the cow pajengan contest, especially in the village of Sana Daja has increased. In addition to the fact that 90% of Sana Daja villagers have a pet cow, the village profession of the average farmer is the reason why many people keep cattle. This article seeks to explain the phenomenon of traditional pajengan existing in the village of Sana Daja. Pajengan is used by middle to low class society to represent its social class in public. Arguments are embodied in this paper. The participation of members of the shrine is not only due to group commitment, but as a means of demonstrating the collective identity of the social class. Difficult access to follow the tradition of cattle and cow sono contest 'makes pajengan as an alternative tradition for lower class society. In the implementation of the tradition of pajengan give impact. First, pajengan is a community container gathering and issuing a domestic cow, second. In the implementation of the tradition of pajengan held arisan members tailored to the ability of each. Third, the tradition of pajengan can also give an economic impact, increase coffee shop income around the place of the implementation of pajengan be proof of economic improvement of the community through the tradition of pajengan.
